In 2005 I entered a competition called Make Mine a Million $ Business – think American Idol meets The Apprentice – a program focused on helping women grow their businesses to $1 million and beyond. I was one of the first women to go from $357K to hitting the million $ mark within a year. I then went on to grow that company to a multi-million $ business.
What I discovered during that experience was that there was a world of women just like me… risk takers and game changers with big hearts and a passion for more. Up to that point, I felt alone and overwhelmed. On paper I had success, but I felt like I was constantly stuck in quicksand.
There were two key results from that experience:
I developed a passion and appreciation for “the sisterhood”
Awareness of the data became a game-changer for me. I continue to be blown away and frustrated to find that 88% of women-owned businesses do $100K or less in annual revenue, and only 1.7% hit the $1M or beyond level. Although there are more women-owned businesses today, the percentages have barely changed in regard to the revenue numbers.
I want to help change that.
The awakening in my soul and tug at my heart is when I knew, for sure, that it was my true calling to help other women succeed. It sounds cliché but it’s so true.
I started with participating on panels and mentoring women, participating in Board of Director roles. I asked lots of questions, listened to the challenges facing many women entrepreneurs and rolled up my sleeves to help. All the while, working on my business growth and my personal growth.
I’ve been blessed to live to tell the stories, speak at events around the world and help women just like you. And let me tell you, I’ve had some doozies!! How about running out of cash and almost going out of business, not once, but TWICE? I could have just kept that secret within my inner circle, felt ashamed, guilty and embarrassed, (and let me tell you, there was a lot of that), but by sharing personal struggles with you, I hope that my crisis, pain and humiliation can help you overcome and thrive.
Growing and scaling a business is HARD! I’ve failed and succeeded at different aspects of my businesses many times and learned from each of them. I love helping women avoid some of the struggles that I’ve encountered and benefit from the wins and my experiences.
Here’s the deal - if entrepreneurship was easy, everyone would do it. And while many possess a passion for progress, not all women are comfortable approaching the realities and challenges that stand in their way.
Our platform is for the growth-minded entrepreneur, it is for the woman who is hustling to make things happen and is willing to invest in not only her business, but also herself.
